Anglotopia Press to Publish Jonathan Thomas’s New Book, Searching for the Heart of Britain

Anglotopia is proud to announce the publication of its founder’s most personal book yet: Searching for the Heart of Britain: An American’s Twenty-Five-Year Quest for the Soul of Britain by Jonathan Thomas. The book will be released on August 3rd in hardcover, eBook, and audiobook editions, and is available to pre-order now.

Equal parts travelogue, history, and love letter, Searching for the Heart of Britain is the culmination of twenty-five years of falling in love with Britain — the journey that began when a young American first crossed the Atlantic and never quite came home again. It is the third and final book in the informal trilogy that started with Adventures in Anglotopia: The Makings of an Anglophile and continued with An End to End: Britain from Land’s End to John o’Groats, though it stands entirely on its own.

Early readers have described it as “Bill Bryson meets Susan Branch, with the charm of James Herriot mixed in — a warm, witty, twenty-five-year love letter to Britain.”

About the Book

The book takes readers on a Victorian steamer down England’s most beautiful lake, into a frozen Dorset cottage at New Year’s, through the village that became the world’s first suburb, into Highclere Castle where Americans still come looking for Downton Abbey, and onto a steam train bound for the Cornish sea on the one perfect day of a long-awaited summer. Along the way, it asks a simple question that has animated Anglotopia from the very beginning: what is it, exactly, that makes so many of us fall so hard for Britain?

As with our recent releases, all three editions — print, eBook, and audiobook — will publish on the same day, so readers can enjoy the book however they like. A signed hardcover edition, limited to just 100 copies and priced at $36.99, is available exclusively through the Anglotopia store while supplies last.
