After eighteen years in business in the United States, Anglotopia has done something its founders have long dreamed of but never quite had the right moment for: we now own a UK-based limited company. Anglotopia is officially a British company, too.
To be clear, nothing changes about our roots. Anglotopia LLC remains a US-registered corporation and will continue to be. But alongside it, we’ve now established a wholly-owned limited company registered in the United Kingdom — giving Anglotopia, for the first time, a genuine legal and physical presence in the country we’ve written about every day since 2007.
Why We Did It
The immediate catalyst was a business opportunity that required Anglotopia to be a UK-registered company in order to move forward. In nineteen years, that had never come up — but it came up now, and rather than let the moment pass, we acted on it.
The bigger picture is what makes this genuinely exciting. A UK entity makes it dramatically easier for us to work directly with British companies, partners, and clients — to contract, collaborate, and do business on the same footing as any other UK firm, without the friction that comes with being a purely American company operating from across the Atlantic. In short, Anglotopia now has a beachhead in Britain and a real stake in the future of the UK economy. As Anglophiles, we’ll admit there’s something rather poetic about that.
Easier Than We Expected
One reason we’d never done this sooner is that we assumed, as non-residents, we simply couldn’t. It turns out that forming a UK company as an overseas owner is remarkably straightforward. We chose to work with 1st Formations, who were thorough in the information they required and made the whole process seamless. From start to finish, it took just 72 hours for the company to officially exist on the UK government’s Companies House register.
The service also came with a number of genuinely useful perks: a London-registered mailing address, access to meeting rooms for when we travel, mail forwarding, a UK telephone number, and more. We’re already planning to put those meeting rooms to good use on our next trip to Britain — more on that soon.
What Comes Next
Functionally, the day-to-day of running Anglotopia doesn’t change much — the company simply now exists in two places, the US and the UK. But the doors this opens are considerable, and we’re only beginning to think through everything a British presence makes possible. For a company built entirely on a love of Britain, having a home there at last feels exactly right.
